Okay, so remember a few weeks ago when I wrote all the flowery praise about the new property manager at my apartment complex? The guy who evicted all the crappy tenants, towed away all the junk cars, put rules and groundwork in place to turn my complex around, and who stayed up for 3 days straight and bought us all food when the power went out?
Yeah, he quit today.
Turns out we're not getting new street lights. Nor are we getting new washers and dryers. Or pop machines. Or anything other than a slow and steady decline into the 'hood.
Instead, we apparantly have an owner who can't pay his employees and isn't willing to invest a dime in a complex he bought.
Sooooo... anybody know a good place to live?

Brazil!
I just moved into another property that was managed by the same individual, and owned by the same California "developer". We heard many (and more) of the same ridiculous promises you did. From a "fleet" of new washers/dryers for a dollar each, down to a fountain going in on the lawn. I mean, for god's sake, a fountain. This is a guy who couldn't even level a floor before installing new tile. Who wants to call these luxury apartments, but couldn't even clean the toilet. We could tell he was a compulsive liar, but hey, we're not afraid of a little elbow grease - the place was cute and it was a good deal. Just glad he never managed to print out a lease for us, so we can ESCAPE when we want.
I read your David Lynch interview in Radish and then did a Google search and here I am on your blog! I'm a big fan of your writing - funny and well written!! How does an editor get in touch with you? I publish The Iowa Source out of Fairfield - maybe you would like to write for us sometime... or do a blog? Email me, Claudia Petrick, at source@lisco.com (don't send email to my gmail account - I'm not sure how to access it!)
Some day you should take a few minutes out of your busy life to check out the Brownstone Flats in Moline. Especially the "penthouse." :-)
